ALPENA — Friday night’s Zonta Runway to the Holidays fashion show provided trendy outfit options from local retailers, with proceeds going to help women be successful.
Held at the APlex, the fundraiser event featured a pasta dinner by JJ’s Catering, a hot cocoa bar and cookies by Galley Sweet Shop, and a variety of models sporting fashion trends from Maurices, Myers Fashions Etc., Cedar and Threads, Glitz and Glamour, and Emery Enterprises. Roar Salon in Alpena styled the fashion models’ hair and makeup for the show.
Zonta Club of Alpena started the fashion show in 2015, but it was changed from fall to the holidays last year.
“It was originally a fall show,” said event chairperson Kim LaBrecque, adding that the holiday event was “well-received. It’s a little bit more fun during the holidays as well.”
She was happy with the turnout of about 75 people, all there for a good cause.

The funds raised go toward Zonta service projects, including funding scholarships at Alpena Community College, mammograms at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena, Friends Together cancer support center, and Hazel’s Closet, which provides clothing for women returning to the workforce.
“Our mission is to enhance, improve, and educate women in the community locally and nationwide,” LaBrecque said of Zonta Club.
Many individuals and businesses donated quality items to the silent auction at the Zonta Club of Alpena fundraiser. The group appreciates the support.
