Covid-19 cases resurge to 3-month high of over 85000 – KBR

As experts expected, Korea's new Covid-19 cases are on the resurge in winter, reaching a three-month high on Tuesday.
The resurgence came when the quarantine authorities carefully sounded out the possibility of lifting indoor mask mandates, as eagerly anticipated by the public.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), the nation added 86,852 new Covid-19 infections, with 55 imported cases, bringing the total caseload to 27,841,001.
Korea also added 29 deaths, increasing the death toll to 31,128, with the number of critically ill patients falling by 18 to 460. The fatality rate remained unchanged at 0.11 percent.
Compared to Monday, Tuesday’s cases have more than tripled. Although the cases are usually higher on Tuesday because of lower figures on Monday due to reduced testing capacity on weekends, the case spillover is still unprecedentedly high, with more than 9,000 higher than the same day last week.
Furthermore, the daily tally was also the highest in the past three months.
Health officials reiterated their calls on citizens to get their booster shots also available to adolescents starting this week.
According to the KDCA, about 44.7 million among 52 million Koreans have been fully vaccinated. In addition, 91,050 winter vaccinations were added today, bringing the total number of winter jabs to about 4 million.
