The Upper West Side will be treated to a touch of Los Angeles this holiday season when “Sutton’s Closet” comes to Central Park Resale (CPR), the resale shop at 22 W. 66th Street.
The Sutton of the aforementioned closet is well-known television celebrity, fashionista, and top party host, Sutton Stracke. The LA-based star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (RHOBH) also launched a boutique called “The Sutton Concept,” in West Hollywood in 2019.
“Nothing could please me more than to see ‘circular fashion’ in motion,” Stracke said, “and to donate from my closet and store to my longtime friend, Tanya Young Williams, at her secondhand store in my place of love, Manhattan.”
‘Circular fashion’ is a phrase largely credited to Swedish sustainability consultant, Ann Brismar, who first used it in 2014. According to Brismar’s company website, the practice is concerned with “the entire life cycle of a product, from design and sourcing, to production, transportation, storage, marketing, and sale, as well as the user phase and the product’s end of life.”
Stracke will kick off the month-long sale at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022 at the West 66th Street store. The sale will end on Sunday, January 15, 2023, or before if all the items are sold. Shoppers can expect to find pieces from designers like Dior, Valentino, Moschino, Dolce & Gabbana, and Alice & Olivia. There will also be items from Stracke’s personal collection, “Sutton Cashmere.”
A well-known philanthropist, including acting as an ambassador for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Stracke has chosen NAMI as the beneficiary of the sale. “It is my pleasure to see the proceeds go to this important and life-changing organization,” she said.
CPR owner Tanya Young Williams is excited about the upcoming sale and collaboration. “Sutton and I both understand the importance of keeping clothes out of landfills,” she told WSR. “We also know that it’s not just ‘fast fashion’ that needs to be circulated. High-end labels can also be enjoyed by several fashionistas.”
Charitable giving is at the heart of Central Park Resale, she adds. Forty percent of the store’s thrift department sales are contributed to nonprofits; 100% of the proceeds from its Thursday Bin are donated as well.
Williams says that “Sutton’s Closet” is the most high-profile event staged at CPR since its opening in October 2021. The boutique owner notes that while business has been growing, this is an unusual opportunity for her and her customers. “This event will encourage sustainable shopping and be a real treat to shoppers who love Sutton and her fabulous fashion.”
So, come see a sample of a “real housewife’s” closet. “Who wouldn’t want to own something from Sutton’s Closet?” Williams says with delight. “She is the fashionista of all fashionistas!”
