High cases of flu and COVID-19 leading to drug shortages – KJZZ

COVID-19, influenza and RSV have been showing up in large numbers this season, causing a shortage in over-the-counter drugs such as pain relievers, cough syrup and some antibiotics.
This could lead to some having to visit multiple pharmacies to fill prescriptions for drugs like amoxicillin.
Dr. Cara Christ is chief medical officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield Arizona.
“You can work with your provider to see if there is another antibiotic. There are other antibiotics that can treat these same types of infections.” Christ said.
Christ added that drugs like penicillin can work as well, and if none are available, at-home remedies such as steamy showers can also relieve symptoms.
