A study presented at the AAAAI 2023 Annual Meeting shows over 80% of the 20 patients with chronic allergy symptoms report significant improvement in their allergy symptoms after 2 weeks of intranasal cleansing with NasoClenz.
According to new data presented at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI) 2023 Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX, over 80% of the 20 patients with chronic allergy symptoms reported significant improvement in their allergy symptoms after 2 weeks of intranasal cleansing with NasoClenz.
Lead investigator Arman Kalamkarian, MD, of AHK Primary and Preventive Medicine in central california, told HCPLive that "an exorbitant amount" of patients have allergy symptoms. In addition to running his practice, Kalamkarian serves on the clinical advisory board for NasoClenz.
"Evaluating a product that can help alleviate those symptoms was essential to my practice," Kalamkarian explained. "The study we did involved working with 20 participants in central California, primarily in the agricultural industry."
The intranasal cleanse kit used in the study included an applicator and gel containing benzalkonium chloride. Patients cleansed twice daily for 2 weeks. Kalamkarian and the team of investigators administered a modified RCAT survey and obtained nasal cultures from 9 patients before and after the test period.
"Furthermore, we took a subset of those participants and cultured their nose to see what would grow out – 9 of those participants were cultured," he continued. "We demonstrated normal skin flora, but also organisms that were multidrug resistant: Mersa and mold."
"We were able to demonstrate great efficacy of the antiseptic component (of the intransal cleasnse) by elimination of the bacteria in their nasal passage and we were able to eliminate mold in 75% of the participants that had mold present," Kalamkarian explained.
The study's results suggest that the adoption of routine intranasal cleansing is worthy of additional study as a potential cost-effective, low-risk method for relieving allergy symptoms.
