Amid Covid fears, India logs lowest cases since March 2020 – 89 cases – Economic Times

India logged 89 new cases over the past 24 hours, Union health ministry data showed on Tuesday. This is the lowest since March 27, 2020 — which was just the beginning of the pandemic for the country.

Meanwhile, the number of active Covid-19 cases also dipped to 2,035, a dip of 84 cases. The active cases now comprise 0.01 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate increased to 98.80 per cent, reported PTI citing the ministry.

The Covid case tally stood at 4.46 crore (4,46,81,233). Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate for the cases was recorded at 0.05 per cent. On the other hand, the weekly positivity rate stood at 0.09 per cent.

The death toll stands at 5,30,726, the health ministry data updated at 8 am on Tuesday stated. The number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 4,41,48,472, while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 per cent.

Meanwhile, data released on Monday showed that a total of 26 cases of COVID’s XBB.1.5 had been detected in India, with the INSACOG sounding alarm about the variant. The Omicron XBB.1.5, also known as Kraken, has been rapidly spreading across the world and has higher rates of transmissibility.

Several states, including Delhi, Maharashtra and West Bengal have reported the presence of Kraken variant in the Covid-19 swab samples of affected patients. INSACOG data also showed that 14 cases of Omicron BF.7 have been found in India.
